What is the 'Green Homes Grant' scheme?

In July 2020 the UK government announced its’ intention to provide homeowners and landlords across England vouchers of £5,000 and £10,000 to make energy efficient improvements to their properties. Around 600,000 people are expected to benefit from the grant.

The Green Homes Grant Scheme is part of a £2billion investment package to improve energy efficiency of UK domestic homes, cut carbon emissions and create more skilled jobs. This is also part of the governments wider plan to achieve the carbon reduction targets set for 2050 and to help rebuild the economy as a result of the recent Covid-19 outbreak.

Who will be eligible for the Green Homes Grant Vouchers?

If you’re a homeowner in England you may qualify for a Green Homes Grant voucher towards the cost of installing energy-efficient improvements to your home.

Homeowners include owner-occupiers, social and private landlords and park home owners. New-build homes aren't eligible. Check your eligibility for the Green Homes Grant Voucher on the Simple Energy Advice Website: Click Here

How does the Green Home Grant work?

Vouchers can be used for home improvements and will cover two-thirds of the cost of eligible measures, up to a maximum government contribution of £5,000. If you, or someone in your household receive certain benefits you may be eligible for a voucher covering 100% of the cost of the energy efficient improvements, with a maximum government contribution of £10,000.

Vouchers can only be used for eligible measures which are split into Primary and Secondary Measures as outlined in point 5.  The voucher must be used to install at least 1 primary measure. If you install at least 1 primary measure, your voucher can be used to help cover the cost of additional secondary measures.  The amount you get towards the cost of secondary measures cannot exceed the amount you get for primary measures. You will only be able to redeem vouchers for secondary measures once you have installed a primary measure and redeemed the vouchers for that measure.

The Vouchers covers the costs associated with the improvement measure including:
